5 Reasons You Should Trade the Snow for Sand This Christmas

5 Reasons You Should Trade the Snow for Sand This Christmas

Thinking about escaping the cold winter to Barbados? Here are five reasons that will help you make a decision faster!

Sunny Days

If you’re escaping the cold, the sun is what you need and Barbados has lots of that! Leave all your winter clothes at home and pack all your shorts and sundresses. Summer never ends here!

The Beach!

Along with the sun, there’s a bonus – the beach! Imagine living the good life during your usual winter, while tanning in a lounge chair with a coconut cocktail on the beach with the sea inviting you for a dip in the background. Barbados has many beaches such as Crane Beach which are perfect for relaxation during your white sand Christmas!

Mouthwatering Cuisine

Traditionally, Barbadians love to cook, but at Christmas they cook even more authentic Barbadian dishes. During this period, many of the island’s restaurants such as L’Azure will have special Christmas menus with dishes such as jug-jug, macaroni pie, sweet potato pie, rum cake and sweet bread among many other island favourites. There are also lots of drinks including sorrel drink, beers and of course – rum!

Bajan Traditions

The roundabouts all over the island are decorated every year and a trip around the island at night can put you in the Bajan Christmas mood. This is a favourite activity among locals, to see the new decorations on the roundabouts and on homes and businesses. You can also attend family events such as Carols by Candlelight which is in aid of charity or Christmas Jazz.

On Christmas Day, Barbadians head to church dressed in their finest clothes. Church services begin very early on Christmas morning. After church every year, many locals head to Queen’s Park in Bridgetown. Here, they stroll the park greeting their friends and family and spread holiday cheer. They then attend the Christmas concert in the park which features some of the island’s best artistes and bands. This is usually a wonderfully vibrant and spectacular occasion, as the sea of colours move through the park. It has been a tradition on the island for many years.

Accommodation

You don’t have to worry about finding accommodations to suit your needs while on your Christmas vacation in Barbados. The island has several hotels all over the island with many options suitable for everyone, regardless of what you looking for. The Crane Resort, in St. Philip has several room categories, starting with the Junior Suite, to the Three Bedroom Penthouse with great amenities!
