With an advanced vaccination programme, robust travel protocols, low rates of local transmission and of course the perennial sun, sea and sand, Barbados is one of the world's safest travel destinations. The island nation has recently announced protocols for fully vaccinated visitors and our team has put together a helpful checklist to aid in your travel planning.
Note: "Fully vaccinated travellers" refers to those who have been fully vaccinated for 14 days or more before arriving on the island. Accepted vaccines in Barbados include AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, Sinopharm, Sinovac and Sputnik V.
Pre-Arrival
- Test 3 days before arrival
Within three days before arrival, all travellers to Barbados must have taken a valid COVID-19 standard PCR test and it must be a nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swab administered by a healthcare professional from an accredited or recognised lab facility. E.g. If you plan to arrive on a Friday, your test must be taken no earlier than the prior Tuesday.
- Download the BIMSafe App
Be sure to download the BIMSafe app which “allows fast processing through health checks, immigration and customs by allowing you to scan and go.” You can upload your proof of vaccination and COVID-19 standard PCR test results on the app, but also remember to bring along printed copies as well with the date of the test clearly displayed. You can also complete your immigration/customs form using the app, making your airport clearance faster. You may also use the app to monitor your temperature and any symptoms within the first seven days after arrival.
Arrival
- Receive your Arrival PCR test
On arrival in Barbados, you will receive your second rapid or standard PCR test at the airport or an approved facility such as The Crane's on-site lab.
Pro-tip: Contact Concierge to arrange Meet & Greet and Fast Track Service for hassle-free, rapid transit through Grantley Adams International Airport upon arrival through immigration & customs.
- Book Accommodation
Travellers are advised to book a two-night minimum stay while awaiting results at a government-approved hotel such as The Crane. It is advised that you travel with a thermometer or purchase one upon arrival at your accommodation as travellers should self-monitor and take regular temperature checks.
- Relax and Enjoy Barbados!
Once you’ve received a negative result from your second PCR test, feel free to explore the island at your leisure. Airport administered test results usually take no more than 1-2 days while at The Crane's on-site lab, results are typically returned on the same day of swabbing.
