Live, work and play in paradise! Barbados living is simply island life at its finest. With a diverse, inclusive community of people, a laid-back culture with strong leadership and developed infrastructure, Barbados is ideal for long-term stays or relocation.
Moving to Barbados can be achieved through a number of residency options. In addition to the more traditional method of permanent relocation, recently the island’s government introduced a new initiative called the Welcome Stamp Visa programme which makes it easier to move to Barbados and allows persons to live and work remotely for up to a year on the island. There is also the Special Entry Permit (SEP) which is ideal for property owners, High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) and those with needed skills and occupations the island sees as crucial to its development.
Barbados Welcome Stamp
The Barbados Welcome Stamp is the ideal opportunity for remote workers, digital nomads and for those who always dreamed of living and working on an island without the commitment of staying indefinitely, as it is a yearlong visa.
This programme was introduced last summer by Barbados' Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley, Q.C., M.P., in recognition of the global increase in remote working. The programme allows more people than ever to work from any destination in the world, including on a beautiful Barbados beach, with a rum punch in hand!
In order to qualify for the Barbados Welcome Stamp Visa, applicants must satisfy the following requirements: the individual must engage in remote work in Barbados, earning at least US$50,000 per year, with a fee of US$2,000 for individuals or US$3,000 bundle deal for families, to be paid after the application approval.
As a bonus, the programme does not require participants to pay local income taxes and should applicants desire to remain longer, it can be extended once they re-apply and it is approved!
Special Entry Permit
The Special Entry Permit is another beneficial way to move to Barbados, and may especially appeal to those with property ownership and High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI).
In order to qualify, at least one of the following must apply: property owners with property valued above US$2 million dollars (the length of stay varies according to the age of the applicant); high net worth individuals with assets exceeding US$5 million dollars; and whether the skills of the applicant are those critically needed in the country. All applicants must also produce a police certificate of character, health insurance coverage and proof that they can sustain themselves and any dependants they may have.
