# 5 Reasons Barbados Seawater is Good for Your Health
**Barbados’ beaches are gorgeous. They are fun for swimming, frolicking, surfing and other water activities, but did you know they are also good for your health? The Crane has put together five reasons why the sea is good for your health.**
**1. Reduces Anxiety**
Seawater has a calming effect, as it contains magnesium. This is why people who are often highly stressed are often advised to visit the beach regularly. The overall peaceful atmosphere of the beach plus the properties of the water help to reduce and even eliminate anxiety.
**2. Boosts Immune System**
Sea water is rich and full of vital elements which can stimulate and boost the immune system. Some of these elements include vitamins, mineral salts, amino acids, vitamins and more. Iodine also found in sea water is known to support thyroid activity and since it’s a natural antiseptic, it helps the body to fight infections, parasites, bacteria and fungi. Also, sea mist, which is packed with negatively charged hydrogen ions, is said to boost the immune system when inhaled because of its powerful antioxidant properties.
**3. Cleanses Skin**
Seawater is great for improving skin texture, elasticity and healing. You might notice that several spas and wellness centres include sea salt into their beauty routines. This is because the salt in the water acts as an exfoliator. The minerals in sea water are also good for the skin, with Magnesium playing an important role in hydration.
