A Foodie's Guide to Barbados

A Foodie's Guide to Barbados

Do you consider yourself a foodie? Are your travel destinations determined solely by the quality and variety of food on offer? Is your vacation itinerary planned around meals and not sights? Well then, you and your discerning taste buds are in luck because The Crane's Concierge has put together a comprehensive Foodie's Guide to Barbados. Check out what's on the menu:

Breakfast

Surfer's Caf
é

Nestled right on the beach overlooking Oistins Bay on Barbados' South Coast, Surfer's Café is a cool and rustic place to break your fast. Enjoy the 'dude, chill' atmosphere, hot coffee and a deliciously cooked menu consisting mainly of surfer-styled combinations of a full-English breakfast. Try the Long Board Omelet - a two egg omelet with cheese, green onions and your choice of bacon or sausage with whole wheat toast and butter or jam.

L'Azure

Sunday Gospel Breakfast at The Crane's flagship restaurant L'Azure, is a must-do on any Barbados food itinerary.  Be uplifted by the sounds of a lively Caribbean Gospel Choir while overlooking the world-famous Crane Beach. The perennial breakfast must-haves are augmented by the inclusion of local favourites like 'Bajan' Fish Cakes, Fried Flying Fish and Pumpkin Fritters. There's also fresh fruit aplenty.

Lunch

Brown Sugar Restaurant

Offering "the very best in Barbadian and Caribbean cuisine", Brown Sugar Restaurant is a local treasure. Its daily all-you-can-eat planter's lunch buffet is an exceptional display of sumptuous local and Creole dishes. Be sure to take generous helpings of the Baked Cinnamon Plantain and Macaroni Pie.

Cin Cin by the Sea

Located on Barbados' 'Platinum' West Coast, Cin Cin is an elegantly contemporary restaurant offering alfresco oceanfront dining. Executive Chef Larry Rogers delivers an eclectic range of Mediterranean-style dishes with a Caribbean flair. To start, try the 'Cin Cin' shrimp buns and thank us later.

Dinner

Buzo Osteria Italiana

Buzo Osteria Italiana is one of Barbados’ newest kids on the restaurant block. Executive Chef Cristian Grini shares his memories of a childhood in Italy, offering a truly authentic Italian dining experience in a chic, modern setting. All of the pasta is exceptional but we recommend the spicy Torcelli con salsicca e porcini (calabrian sausage , porcini mushrooms and light cream and tomato sauce).

Zen

Zagat rated as Barbados' #1 for Food, The Crane's Zen Restaurant features classic Thai & Japanese cuisine in a stunning setting overlooking Crane Beach. The centerpiece of the restaurant is the traditional Japanese Tatami room overlooking the sea 50 feet below. Relax, chat and enjoy the amazing view as the sushi chefs prepare delicious, exotic fare.

Primo Bar & Bistro

Another recent addition to Barbados' restaurant scene, Primo Bar & Bistro is located in the popular St. Lawrence Gap. Formerly known as Pisces Restaurant, Primo now offers ultra-chic water front dining. While there are no wrong choices on the new menu, be sure to try the Mac & Cheese with Broccoli, Shrimp and Lobster.

Bonus Recommendation

Cuz's Fish Shack

No self-respecting foodie will ever visit Barbados and leave without trying the fish sandwich that world-renowned chef and author Marcus Samuelsson described as "so fresh. So delicious' and Newsweek named as one of the 101 best places to eat around the world. Located just outside of Bridgetown at Needham's Point, this illogical combination of Blue Marlin, Fried Egg and Cheese between a bun somehow works to create magic.
