Barbados Travel Checklist: Unvaccinated Travellers

Barbados Travel Checklist: Unvaccinated Travellers

Thanks to comprehensive protocols, unvaccinated travellers can confidently travel to Barbados! If you are unvaccinated and wish to visit our island paradise, here is a step-by-step guide on how you can do so in compliance with Barbados' Travel Protocols.

Note: The term unvaccinated not only refers to those who have never received a Ministry of Health approved COVID-19 vaccine, but also refers to those who have only had a single dose of a two-dose regimen and those who have received both doses less than 24 hours prior to travel to Barbados. In addition, anyone who says they’ve been vaccinated but cannot show verifiable proof will also be considered unvaccinated.

Please also note that if a family or group is travelling together and some of the members are vaccinated and some are unvaccinated and choose not to be separated, then the rules for unvaccinated travellers will apply to the entire group.

Pre-Arrival
  • Test 3 days before arrival

Within 3 days prior to arrival, all persons coming to Barbados must have a valid negative COVID-19 standard PCR test result and it must be a nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swab that was administered by a healthcare professional from an accredited or recognised lab facility. E.g. If you plan to arrive on a Friday, your test must be taken no earlier than the prior Tuesday.
  • Download the BIMSafe App

Be sure to download and enter your information using the BIMSafe app at least 24 hours prior to arrival. You can complete your Immigration/Customs details using the app and upload your pre-arrival test results as well. This should assist in making the arrival process smoother at the Grantley Adams International Airport. However, you should always travel with printed copies of your test results.
Arrival
  • Transportation

Unvaccinated travellers must utilise specially designated transportation providers for transfer from the airport to their accommodation at an approved facility.

Pro-tip: Guests of The Crane can book approved transport providers with our Concierge team pre-arrival.
  • Quarantine

On arrival in Barbados, you will receive your second rapid or standard PCR test at the airport or an approved facility such as The Crane's on-site lab.

All unvaccinated travellers must quarantine for 5 days and encouraged to book 6 - 7 nights at their approved accommodation to allow for the return of their 2nd PCR test result. You should note that quarantine can only be done at approved accommodation, such as The Crane Resort. Here at the Crane, accommodation is based around your comfort, with expansive suites equipped with full kitchens, and in many cases in-suite pools and balconies. The Crane Resort has also committed to a range of measures including complimentary room service and contactless delivery of groceries to your door from our onsite general store.

  • Testing

Once the 5-day quarantine is completed, a second test is administered, after which you are advised to allow for a day or two more until the results are returned. Once a negative result is returned, feel free to explore Barbados to your heart’s content! You will find that our beautiful beaches, historic sites, warm, friendly people and rich, authentic culture are more than worth the wait.

Pro-tip: Government-administered test results usually take no more than 1-2 days while at The Crane's on-site lab, results are typically returned on the same day of swabbing.
